Does it Contain Acetaminophen? Where to Look:

The active ingredient(s) in OTC medicines are clearly listed on the outer packaging and Drug Facts label, but the container labels on prescription medicines that contain acetaminophen may not clearly identify acetaminophen as an active ingredient. On prescription labels, acetaminophen is sometimes listed as “APAP,” “acetamin,” or other shortened versions of the word.

NCPIE, other patient safety organizations, federal agencies, drug manufacturers and pharmacies all are working together to improve how active ingredients are presented on prescription medicine labels. Ask a healthcare professional to help you identify the active ingredient in your prescription medicine if you are not sure.
