Acetaminophen-Savvy resource guide: tools for teen influencers
Acetaminophen may not be on your list of things to discuss when you talk to teens about how to use prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs safely. But, it should be.
Here’s why: Acetaminophen is the most common active ingredient in prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medicines. More than 600 medicines contain it. When medicine containing acetaminophen is used as directed, it is safe and effective. But, there is a limit to how much acetaminophen can be safely taken in one day. Taking more acetaminophen than directed is considered an overdose and can lead to liver damage and death.
Learn more about how to use acetaminophen safely and appropriately and educate the teens you influence. The Acetaminophen Safe Use Program for Teen Influencers developed by the National Council on Patient Information and Education (NCPIE) can help.
